Oxygen sensor no activity bank 2 sensor 2
What it means
The downstream (after the catalytic converter) lambda sensor signal on bank 2 does not change or is missing. Confirm bank 2's location in the engine's service information.
Symptoms
- engine warning light
- usually no change in how the car drives
- may fail the emissions part of the roadworthiness test
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | unplugged sensor |
| 02 | failed sensor |
| 03 | open signal wire |
| 04 | heater or fuse fault |
| 05 | ECU input fault |
What to check, step by step
- 01Check the sensor is plugged in and the connector is dry and undamaged
- 02Check the heater fuse and supply: a cold sensor stays inactive
- 03Run the OEM rear-sensor activity test, including prescribed mixture changes or fuel cut-off; a steady signal at warm idle alone does not prove inactivity.
- 04Check the signal wire for an open circuit back to the ECU
- 05Replace the sensor only if it fails the specified activity test with the heater, wiring and exhaust system confirmed sound.
