Intake runner (swirl) flap control circuit/open bank 1
What it means
Intake manifold runner flaps - called swirl flaps on diesels - change how air enters the cylinders at low rpm. The engine computer sees an open circuit in the flap actuator or solenoid control.
Symptoms
- engine warning light
- often no noticeable change
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | failed flap actuator or control solenoid |
| 02 | unplugged or corroded connector |
| 03 | broken wiring |
| 04 | no supply voltage (fuse) |
What to check, step by step
- 01Inspect the actuator/solenoid connector and wiring.
- 02Measure actuator or solenoid resistance against specification.
- 03Check supply voltage and continuity to the engine computer.
- 04Replace the faulty actuator or solenoid.
