Throttle actuator control system idle position not learned
What it means
The ECU has not been able to learn the throttle's closed and idle positions, usually after the throttle body was cleaned or replaced, the battery was disconnected or the ECU was replaced.
Symptoms
- unstable or incorrect idle
- stalling when coming to a stop
- engine warning light
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | throttle adaptation not done after cleaning or replacement |
| 02 | adaptation failing because conditions are not met (low battery voltage, engine too cold or too hot) |
| 03 | dirty throttle body |
| 04 | worn throttle body |
What to check, step by step
- 01Make sure the battery is well charged and there are no other throttle or sensor faults
- 02Run the throttle adaptation (basic settings) with a scan tool under the conditions the maker specifies
- 03Clean the throttle body if it is dirty, then repeat the adaptation
- 04Replace the throttle body if adaptation still fails
