P245B
EGR cooler bypass control circuit range/performance bank 1
What it means
The EGR cooler bypass flap lets exhaust gas skip the cooler when the engine is cold. The bypass does not respond as expected to commands.
Symptoms
- engine warning light
- usually no noticeable change
- may slow warm-up or affect emissions
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | bypass flap seized with soot |
| 02 | vacuum hose split or disconnected |
| 03 | weak solenoid or actuator |
| 04 | vacuum supply problem |
What to check, step by step
- 01Inspect the connector and wiring to the bypass solenoid or actuator.
- 02On vacuum systems, check the vacuum hose and solenoid; on electric ones, run the actuator test.
- 03Check the flap moves freely and is not seized with soot.
- 04Replace the solenoid or actuator (sometimes only available with the EGR cooler).
