Invalid data received from ABS control module
What it means
A module is receiving messages from the ABS/ESP unit, but the data in them (usually wheel speeds) is missing or implausible.
Symptoms
- ABS/ESP warning lights
- Speedometer wrong or dropping out
- Gearbox, cruise control or start-stop disabled
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | faulty or dirty wheel speed sensor, or damaged magnetic ring on the wheel bearing |
| 02 | wheel speed sensor wiring damaged near the hub |
| 03 | incorrect tyre sizes or rolling circumferences for the approved vehicle fitment |
| 04 | ABS module fault or wrong coding after replacement |
| 05 | low 12V battery voltage |
What to check, step by step
- 01Read the ABS module codes first and follow the diagnostic path for the reported fault
- 02Verify normal braking and absence of stop warnings before any road test; compare all wheel speeds using a data logger or a second technician, not a driver watching a scan tool
- 03Inspect the indicated sensor, wiring and encoder ring for damage or contamination
- 04Check tyre sizes, rolling circumferences and pressures against the approved specification; front and rear sizes may legitimately differ
- 05Check ABS module coding if it has been replaced
