Invalid data received from body control module
What it means
A module is receiving messages from the body control module, but the data in them is missing or implausible.
Symptoms
- Lights, locks or wipers behaving oddly
- Warning messages on the dash
- Sometimes start or immobiliser problems
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | a fault inside the BCM's own circuits (read BCM codes first) |
| 02 | low 12V battery voltage |
| 03 | wrong coding after BCM replacement or retrofit (e.g. towbar, lights) |
| 04 | water ingress into the BCM |
| 05 | intermittent wiring fault |
What to check, step by step
- 01Read and fix the BCM's own codes first
- 02Check 12V battery voltage
- 03Ask about recent retrofits or BCM replacement and check coding
- 04Inspect the BCM for water ingress
