Fuel rail pressure sensor circuit fault
What it means
The engine computer detects a fault in the fuel rail pressure sensor circuit, rather than confirming a mechanical fuel pressure fault.
Symptoms
- limp mode or loss of power
- possible no start or stalling
- engine warning light
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | failed rail pressure sensor |
| 02 | connector corrosion |
| 03 | open or shorted wiring |
| 04 | reference voltage or sensor ground fault |
| 05 | engine computer input fault |
What to check, step by step
- 01Inspect the sensor connector for corrosion and fuel contamination.
- 02Check the 5 V reference, ground and signal with key on.
- 03Check engine-off rail pressure only after the OEM pressure-decay conditions are met. Residual pressure can remain after shutdown; verify sensor supply, ground and signal before condemning it, and never loosen a fuel line to check pressure.
- 04Replace the sensor if wiring is good (on some rails the sensor is not sold separately).
