P2463
DPF restriction - soot accumulation bank 1
What it means
The DPF holds more soot than the engine computer allows. Normally soot is burnt off by regeneration during longer drives; this code means regeneration has not kept up.
Symptoms
- DPF warning light and/or engine warning light
- reduced power (limp mode)
- cooling fan running after switch-off or higher idle (regeneration attempts)
- rising oil level from repeated failed regenerations
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | short urban trips that never let a regeneration finish |
| 02 | another fault blocking regeneration (exhaust temperature sensor, pressure sensor, EGR, glow plug codes) |
| 03 | engine making too much soot (worn or leaking injectors, boost leak, EGR stuck open, dirty air-mass meter) |
| 04 | some cars will not regenerate with low fuel level |
| 05 | faulty pressure sensor or hoses giving a false soot reading |
What to check, step by step
- 01Read all stored codes, regeneration history, and calculated and measured soot load; repair faults that prevent regeneration.
- 02Check pressure-sensor hoses and confirm that the pressure readings and soot estimate are credible.
- 03Check oil level and fuel dilution before any regeneration. If oil is above the permitted level or diluted, investigate and service it before running a regeneration.
- 04Only regenerate when the manufacturer permits it at the measured load and all prerequisites are met. Follow the specified driving cycle or have a workshop perform the guided service regeneration with fire precautions.
- 05Above the permitted regeneration load, do not attempt a forced regeneration; remove the filter for approved cleaning or replacement.
- 06Find and correct the reason for excess soot, then verify filter pressure and regeneration operation.
