Turbo boost control position sensor A range/performance
What it means
The turbo vane position reported by the sensor does not match what the engine computer commands, most often because the vanes or actuator are sticking.
Symptoms
- loss of power (limp mode), often under load
- engine warning light
- sometimes overboost or underboost symptoms
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | turbo variable vanes sticking with soot |
| 02 | worn actuator gears or linkage |
| 03 | failed position sensor in the actuator |
| 04 | actuator not calibrated after replacement |
| 05 | wiring or connector fault |
What to check, step by step
- 01Compare commanded and actual vane position in live data.
- 02Run the actuator test and check the linkage moves smoothly through full travel.
- 03Inspect connector and wiring.
- 04If vanes are sticking, have the turbo cleaned or reconditioned; replace the actuator only if it is at fault.
- 05Calibrate the actuator after replacement if required.
