OBD-II · Engine and powertrain (P)
P0236
Turbo boost sensor range/performance
What it means
Boost pressure readings do not match what the engine computer expects for the engine load, or do not agree with atmospheric pressure when the engine is off.
Symptoms
- loss of power, possibly limp mode
- engine warning light
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | blocked or contaminated boost-pressure sensor port |
| 02 | faulty boost-pressure sensor |
| 03 | sensor reference, ground, connector or signal-wiring fault |
| 04 | boost leak or boost-control fault causing implausible pressure response |
| 05 | intake or exhaust restriction |
What to check, step by step
- 01With key on and engine off after pressure equalizes, compare boost pressure with a reliable ambient-pressure reference using the same units.
- 02Inspect the sensor port, connector and wiring; check its reference voltage, ground and signal against OEM specifications.
- 03Test the sensor response with the manufacturer's specified method.
- 04If readings are credible, investigate boost leaks, actuator operation and intake/exhaust restrictions.
- 05Replace the sensor only if testing identifies the sensor itself as faulty.
